WHAT IS ALCOHOLISM?

The disease of alcoholism is characterized as a chronic disease where the ability to control one’s drinking is impaired despite serious physical, social, and financial consequences. Alcoholism affects men and women of every race, age demographic, and social class. It is extremely progressive in nature, and can lead to a number of problems including isolation from family and friends, trouble with the law, alcohol related injuries/illnesses, and death.

WHAT ARE THE SYMPTOMS OF ALCOHOLISM?

Symptoms of Alcoholism can include:

- Continuing drinking despite negative consequences (social, physical, or mental)
- Loss of interest in activities that do not involve drinking
- Increased tolerance to alcohol (needing more to drink to feel drunk)
- Blackouts
- Failed attempts to cut back or stop drinking habits
- Feelings of anxiety when alcohol is unavailable
- Alcohol Withdrawal
- Drinking in the morning
- Hiding and/or lying about your drinking habits
- Experiencing cravings for alcohol/compulsions to drink

I THINK I HAVE A DRINKING PROBLEM. WHAT SHOULD I DO?

Admitting that you have a drinking problem is the first step towards reclaiming your life. It is essential that you undergo a safe medical DETOX. Alcoholics who do not detox properly can experience adverse physical symptoms, including increased anxiety, hallucinations (also known as delirium tremens), seizures, and death. Once you have been properly detoxed, there are a large number of ALCOHOL AND DRUG TREATMENT CENTERS where you can learn about the disease of addiction and how to get into recovery. Many alcoholics also opt to spend time after REHAB at a SOBER LIVING facility to help transition back to their every day lives. Whatever your specific issues, there is a PERSONALIZED TREATMENT PLAN to suit your needs.

Alcoholism is a disease that affects millions of people, and while there is no cure, it can be managed with the correct treatment and the will to stay sober.
