Intervention - More Information

INTERVENTION

If you are watching a loved one struggle with the disease of addiction, you may feel as if your complaints and concerns fall on deaf ears. You may wonder, “How can I help?” or “What can I do?”. Although you may see that there is clearly a serious problem with your loved ones behavior, often times they can not or will not see the reality of their addiction. Getting your loved one to a DRUG TREATMENT FACILITY so they can get the help they need is essential, but how can you get them there? Often times, an INTERVENTION is the best route possible.

WHAT IS AN INTERVENTION?

An intervention is a gathering of loved ones that confront the addict or alcoholic to force them to come face to face with their problems and address them. The main purpose of an intervention is to present the option of treatment. The loved ones each share how deeply they care for the addict, how the addict’s behavior is affecting their lives, and how their relationship will change should the addict refuse the treatment being offered.

WHY ARE INTERVENTIONS SUCCESSFUL?

It is a widely held belief that an addict must “hit rock bottom” before they are truly ready to receive any sort of treatment. But the unfortunate reality is that many addicts won’t hit a bottom until it’s too late. The intervention, in a way, creates a bottom for the addict. The addict must face how their behavior is affecting those that they care about. They also come to the realization that any support (emotional, financial, housing, etc.) they may rely on from their loved ones will cease to exist should they choose to reject treatment. Often times, the combination of hearing how much they are hurting those they love and the fact that their loved ones enabling behavior is coming to an end is enough to get the addict into treatment.

WHAT’S NEXT?

Getting an addicted person into treatment is the first step towards the addict living a clean and healthy lifestyle. Every person is different and has a different path towards getting and staying sober. Once a person is in treatment, a PERSONALIZED TREATMENT PLAN, which may include DETOX, Inpatient or Outpatient Rehab, and/or SOBER LIVING can be worked out to suits their individual needs.
