What we offer
The Oceanside Difference Individualized Recovery Programs
Certainly, the first and most critical step is for our clients to remain abstinent from drugs and alcohol. We also know that other than genetic predispositions, there are many reasons why individuals become alcoholics and addicts. While as a sober living we do not provide therapy on site, unlike other sober livings our trained staff includes not only those in recovery but an on-site licensed psychotherapist. We understand that the majority of addicts have deep-rooted psychological pain, most likely resulting from earlier trauma of some kind. The addict has lived life being plagued by this trauma, whether consciously or unconsciously. Most often, unresolved trauma fuels an already existing genetic predisposition for addiction, and unless treated can be a deadly impediment to recovery. Addicts have discovered that alcohol and drugs “numb” all their uncomfortable and painful feelings, and they use these substances as coping mechanisms. As no two people have the same painful life experiences, the Oceanside staff works one-on-one with each individual client to confront these tormenting feelings and begin the process of introducing the necessary steps to start the healing process. The goal is to give our clients the tools to develop new constructive thoughts, ideas and behaviors that can replace the old destructive methods of dulling the pain. At Oceanside, we work privately with each client so that confidentiality and safety are maintained at all times. We applaud our clients for taking the courageous step to begin their new life in recovery in a sober living environment. Studies have proven that the longer an individual stays in a rehabilitation environment, the better their chances are for long-term recovery (3 months is considered the minimum length of time). However, living in a therapeutic environment is just one part of the recovery puzzle. At Oceanside we emphasize the 12-Step programs and finding fellowship with other alcoholics and addicts. Unlike other sober livings that primarily only focus on 12 step programs we work on healing the whole individual. This includes helping clients to find outstanding therapists to deal with underlying issues as well as reliable doctors for any needed medications. We help clients find a passion and purpose in life that will help to keep them sober. We teach clients how to forgive themselves and others and form healthy, appropriate relationships. Some daily tasks that others may take for granted can be overwhelming when newly sober. At Oceanside we guide you every step of the way during the first difficult year of sobriety. Oceanside is the only sober living to offer intensive money management and has a resident trust set up where our director appropriates funds given to our clients from their families for spending money and teaches them how to budget, keep track of receipts and make better choices in terms of money management. Oceanside actually works with the whole individual to help them not only get sober but to become the person they were meant to be. |
